VS Code extension
Set up Soplang 3.6 analysis, schema editing, and compiler tasks in Visual Studio Code.
VS Code extension
The Soplang extension adds
syntax highlighting, snippets, diagnostics, completion, navigation, formatting,
and Run, Build, and REPL commands. Its 3.6 update uses the installed Soplang
compiler's language server for current language and schema.sop analysis.
Install Soplang first
Install the 3.6 package for your platform on the same machine where VS Code runs its workspace extension host. In SSH, WSL, and container workspaces, that means the remote environment. Check the executable there:
soplang noocSet soplang.compilerPath in VS Code if the executable is not on PATH:
{
"soplang.compilerPath": "/path/to/soplang"
}The extension does not download the compiler. The official 3.6 packages include the LLVM generator, linker, and runtime needed by the Build command; building a Soplang program does not require a separate Rust or Clang installation.
What the editor provides
The installed compiler analyzes source without executing it. The editor uses
unsaved buffers for diagnostics and navigation. schema.sop gets its own
highlighting, snippet, completion, hover, formatting, and schema diagnostics.
Native definitions can open read-only source references from the installed
compiler. The Run and Build commands execute a saved source file in a terminal;
Open REPL starts soplang isdhexgal.
Syntax highlighting and snippets work without a compiler. When a 3.6 compiler cannot be found, the extension can use its bundled 3.0 analysis server for older source. Install Soplang 3.6 for current file, network, task, web, and data API analysis. Workspace Trust is required to start the compiler or a custom analysis server.
A source debugger and debug adapter are not included in the extension. See the extension support matrix for its exact limits and the 3.6 overview for language capabilities.
